Filtrexx® EnviroSoxx® installation at Carity Prairie

On Thursday, December 3rd, members of Marek Landscaping will be installing Filtrexx® EnviroSoxx® at Carity Prairie in Franklin. The installation is part of a larger initiative to restore native habitat at the site, which is one of Franklin’s most important natural areas. The 23-acre site is a tributary of the Root River and includes a rare combination of wet prairie, sedge meadow and oak savanna. The EnviroSoxx® will capture nitrogen, phosphorous and other pollutants that are currently entering Legend Creek as stormwater runoff from nearby parking lots, lawns and agriculture fields. The land is managed by the Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy (MALC), and the project is funded by Southeastern Wisconsin Watersheds Trust, Inc. (Sweet Water).

Thompson’s West End Park Master Plan Approved by City Council

The Washburn City Council unanimously approved the Master Plan for Thompson’s West End Park at the August 10, 2015 council meeting. The Master Plan, developed by Marek Landscaping and Arcint-Architecture, provides a comprehensive plan to meet the City’s goals for the park, such as improved camping area (including four season “glamour camping” or “glamping”), circulation, wayfinding, architecture, playspace and natural resources. Other specific areas of focus are improving the entranceway, reconfiguring the boat launch and beach areas, adding a kayak launch site, enhancing existing children’s play area, managing storm water, improving the landscape and natural habitat, and enhancing the hiking trails. Overall, the plan emphasizes and celebrates the public waterfront, most prominently demonstrated through the conversion of a shoreline road and parking area into a public car-free boardwalk.

Three Bridges Park Grand Opening Festival in the Menomonee River Valley

July 20, 2013 – Milwaukee celebrated the opening of the 24-acre Three Bridges Park in the Menomonee River Valley. This site was formerly a wild rice marsh, turned rail yard, turned vacant brownfield. The park now boasts a mile of trails, three bike/pedestrian bridges, community gardens, native plant communities, river restoration, and wildlife habitat. Marek was part of a multi-discipline design team and worked on the remediation plan, landscape architecture, land restoration, stormwater management, rainwater harvesting, and riparian & bluff stabilization portions of the design. Milwaukee’s First Floating Island Installed in the Milwaukee River Estuary

May 21, 2013 – We installed the first of four floating islands in the Milwaukee River Estuary after four years of planning and partnering! The idea is to re-introduce aquatic & wetland habitat along the sheetpiled shoreline of Milwaukee’s harbor. Marek Landscaping, LLC applied Floating Islands International’s technology to the riverine environment. We would like to thank Groundwork Milwaukee, Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, & Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission as project partners and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Fund for Lake Michigan, Floating Islands International, and Midwest Floating Islands as project funders and partners.

Atwater Bluff Restoration Receives Fund for Lake Michigan Grant
