Field Ecologist

Marek Landscaping, LLC is a design-build firm founded in 1996 that provides sustainable design, construction, and stewardship. We focus on natural areas management, shoreline stabilization, green infrastructure, trails, and parks. With low-impact design methods, we use native plants and natural materials to design, construct, and support ecologically functional systems for public, private, and NGO clients. Current projects include bluff, shoreline, and wetland restorations.

We are currently seeking a Field Ecologist to:
• Conduct aspects of native habitat restoration projects, including:
o Tree and brush cutting and removal.
o Invasive plant species control and pesticide application.
o Planting, seeding, soil preparation, and erosion control material installation.
o Monitoring, surveying, or sample collection.
o Prescribed burn implementation
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently daily.
• Operation of power tools, and other specialized equipment.
• Work independently and as part of a team, following instructions.
• Occasionally participate in landscaping hardscape and softscape projects.
We will help you achieve:
• Knowledge of local plant taxonomy in Southeastern Wisconsin, including plant ID.
• Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator License (3.0, 5.0, 6.0).
• Prescribed fire training (S-130, S-131, S-190, S-290).
Minimum Qualifications:
• Capability to work during the field season in various outdoor conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, and rain or snow.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift.
• Effective communication and strong time management skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Sustainable Landscape Construction Crew Member

Marek Landscaping, LLC is a design-build firm founded in 1996 that provides sustainable design, construction, and stewardship of the land. With low-impact design methods, we use native plants and natural materials to design, construct, and support ecologically functional systems for public, private, and NGO clients. Current projects include bluff, shoreline, and wetland restorations for large public projects, non-profits, and private residences.

We are currently seeking a Sustainable Landscape Construction Crew Member to:
• Work independently and as part of a team, following instruction from Construction Crew Lead/Foreman.
• Operate or be willing to learn the proper operation of various tools and equipment, including chainsaws, jackhammers, power tools, skid steers, compact excavators, tractors, and other specialized equipment.
• Perform maintenance on tools and equipment, such as inspections, lubricating, and cleaning.
• Assist with the installation of leading-edge green infrastructure and hardscape features in residential and commercial hardscape and softscape features, including:
o Natural stone & paver patios, walkways, trail systems
o Retaining walls
o Green roofs
o Ponds, fountains, streams, and other water features
o Bluff stabilization and access infrastructure
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently daily.
Qualifications:
• Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs throughout the day.
• Effective communication and strong time management skills
• A valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
• Agricultural or construction background is desirable.

• Trail-building techniques and principles
• Permeable surface techniques and installation
• Bluff stabilization principles and implementation techniques
• Basic horticultural skills, including plant installation and care
• Basic plant identification skills
